Lindsay Lohan has been vacationing in French Polynesia for the past several days, because, as everyone knows, it’s physically impossible to be famous unless you spend every holiday on a beach. But thanks to one evil, disease-ridden mosquito, poor Lindsay did not have the carefree seaside jaunt she deserves. No, instead Lindsay got Chikungunya virus, an illness that causes “fever and severe joint pain,” according to the World Health Organization, as well as “muscle pain, headache, nausea, fatigue, and rash.” Perhaps you’ve read about it in the security line at the airport, where advisories warn travelers about the importance of bug spray in locations where the virus is found.
Over the weekend, Lindsay tweeted a photo of herself with the note “before I got Chikungunya” and advised her followers to use bug spray (she actually wrote “big spray,” but give the girl a break, she has an incurable disease). She seems to be staying optimistic though, because she later posted the above picture with the caption, “I refuse to let a virus affect my peaceful vacation.” You tell that mosquito, Lindsay! But be prepared to keep up that positive attitude, because as the WHO notes, Chikungunya has no cure and is treated only by relieving the symptoms. She’ll probably never ask Santa for anything ever again.
